Rose Bay to Watsons Bay
By Kim Preminger

A long time ago, someone told me that the timing of hikes and walks was measured in how long a 75 year old Swiss woman would take to complete it. Apparently Swiss women do a lot of walking, but by 75 they have slowed down to slightly less than the “average walker". (Still pretty strong!) No one wants to be told a walk will take them 2 hours and after 3 they are still plodding along, so walk times are usually a little more than the average walker would take.

The walk from Rose Bay to Watsons Bay was billed as 4 1/2 hours. It took us 2! And this included a fair amount of stopping to enjoy the drop dead gorgeous views, and making sure everyone’s camera had a picture of its owner and said view on it.

After meeting outside Catalina Restaurant at Rose Bay—and giving everyone a chance to repark their car if necessary to avoid getting a ticket, the seven of us set off through the costal bushland to Nielsen Park. It seemed to take no time at all to get there and still energetic we pressed on to Watson's Bay. The last section of this walk took us through Parsley Bay and past some really beautiful, expensive houses. The street views of these palaces are nothing like the view from the other side, but you need a boat to see that.

With the walk over sooner than anticipated, we had plenty of time to enjoy lunch at Doyles Palace Hotel with more pictures, and then we all took a bus back to Rose Bay and home. Next walk looks like it might be in May and we are considering Taronga Zoo to Balmoral Beach. Hope to see you there!
