Hello Members,

Thanks to all the members and guests who came out to participate in our bowling challenge with the Quebec Oz club.  We were defeated by a small margin, but look at all these smiles!  It was a fun afternoon and we look forward to a repeat challenge.

Upcoming events:

The September calendar is quickly filling up with the following events:

Friday, September 4th is our last mixer at the Paragon until our Christmas event in December.  We are planning to test our skills at Euchre, so if you are fan, come and join us!

Just announced, the Club has been invited to attend a concert by Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist Ann Vriend on September 17th in Surrey Hills.

Best of all this event is free!

You can learn more about Ann and hear some of her music through her website at

The harbour walk is fast approaching on Sunday September 20th.  The walk is a pleasant suburban stroll by the shores of Hen & Chicken Bay.  The route is mostly paved, is considered ‘easy’ and will take approximately 2-2.5 hours in a single direction.  Register your interest so that you are not left at the dock.

Our Thanksgiving celebration will be held on Sunday, October 11th.  We have confirmed that the menu will the same delicious feast as last year at the same great location of Essen Restaurant in Ultimo.  As we must confirm our group size in advance, we appreciate you registering as soon as possible if you plan to attend.

The Federal Election:

As you are aware, a Federal election is being held in Canada on October 19th.

If you are eligible to vote and would like to vote by special ballot, you should apply as quickly and as early as possible to allow time for your application to reach Elections Canada by October 13, 2015.

A special ballot voting kit will be sent to you, and must reach Elections Canada by the deadline, 6pm Eastern Time on Monday October 19, 2015.  This is a tight turn-around for us far away in Australia.

The application for Registration and Special Ballot for Canadian citizens residing outside of Canada is available on Elections Canada’s website.  To download an application, please click on the link “Get a special ballot application form"

Other Local Events:

Canadian Firefighter Rudy Pospisil from Vancouver, BC is riding his bicycle around the globe for cancer charity and has already covered 1/2 of the Earth. He will cycle from Cairns to Melbourne starting in September 2015, arriving in Sydney on October 25th.  Rudy is graciously accepting Cancer donations on his website and is hoping to raise some funds for this Australian journey at  Let’s plan to give him a warm Canadian welcome when he passes through Sydney and spread the word for this amazing effort and great cause!
