Sunday 4th May @ 2PM: The Secret History : the Huguenot Contribution to the Foundation of Canada

An invitation has been extended for CAC Members to attend an illustrated talk about The Secret History : the Huguenot Contribution to the Foundation of Canada , on Sunday 4th May.

This is presented by Mr Robert Nash who is an internationally acclaimed researcher into Huguenot history and issues. This presentation looks at the history of the early French settlements in Canada and the roles played by early pioneers such as Pierre Dugua Sieur de Monts, Samuel Champlain and the French King, Henri IV. Issues that are not generally known about the backgrounds of these pioneers and the impact this had on the settlement of Canada are also discussed. This is a historical and cultural discussion of the French pioneers who established the early settlements in Canada.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is back!

Sydney North - May 5th-7th The Hayden Orpheum, Cremorne

Sydney - May 12th-17th The Seymour Centre, Chippendale

The most prestigious international film competition and an annual presentation of short films and documentaries about mountain culture, sports, and environment. It was launched in 1976 as The Banff Festival of Mountain Films by The Banff Centre and is held every October in Banff, Canada.

Approximately 300 films are entered into the film festival annually, and top 60 films (approximately) are selected by a pre-screening committee to be shown at the festival. During the festival, the international film festival jury chooses the best films and presents awards in various categories.

From this selection a program of thought-provoking films, with subject matter ranging from remote landscapes and cultures to adrenaline-packed action sports are selected to tour Australia each April, May and June.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour now reaches more than 390 communities and 35 countries across the globe.
