Rugby League in Canada looked all but extinct since the Emerging Nations World Cup in England in the Year 2000, but there has been a resurrection and Rugby League in Canada, and it is quite rapidly becoming a revered Rugby League nation.  There are now two successful competitions in British Columbia and Ontario, as well as the national team the “Canada Wolverines”. The Wolverines currently sit 16th in the world.

The Canada-Australia Rugby League has recently been formed to allow Canada RL to identify & develop potential Wolverines of the future. This initiative is being spearheaded by NRL Game Development Officer and Canadian eligible Mike Castle, along with Canadian citizen and Rugby League tragic Paul Ruri.

Mike Castle is eligible to represent Canada through his Grandfather and is feeling very optimistic about the future of the program. “We’ve been able to identify some high quality individuals on and off the field so far, which will no doubt assist the Wolverines when the next World Cup Qualifiers come around in 2017.”

The squad will congregate for the first time on the 1st February 2014 when they compete in the Cabramatta International 9’s. This annual competition attracts a number of developing rugby league nations such as Philippines, Japan, Fiji, Niue, Portugal, Greece and PNG to name a few.

The squad will be also be bolstered by two current British Columbia based Canadian Wolverines who will fly to Australia in January to spend a month with the Parramatta Eels before meeting the squad for the tournament.

If you are eligible to represent Canada (at least 1 Canadian Grandparent), and would like some more information on how to join the C.A.R.L please contact Mike Castle on 0447 445 557 or If you would like the opportunity to sponsor the C.A.R.L please contact Paul Ruri on 0417 289 061 or
