Sonia came to Australia looking for adventure. She and a friend from her hometown of Hardisty, on Highway 13 in southeast Alberta, arrived on the Oronsay on 24 February 1970. She visited Alice Springs where she met a lovely Aussie man named Bruce, who was originally from Wagga. They lived in Sydney until May 1974 then travelled around Australia for four years. They have a daughter Ellona. In 1978 Sonia became a member of the Canadian Australian Club and in the same year they travelled to Canada to see Sonia’s family. Upon return they settled in Tweed Heads where Sonia now lives. Sonia is a passionate quilter and enjoys jazz music. She looks forward to attending an event when she next visits Sydney.
