What a Night!

As a regular attendee to the Club's Canada Day events, I didn't hesitate to sign up for this year's event. I must say I was a little dubious about the location - having never heard of the "Art House Hotel". I wondered, would it be a pub? Was it some old forgotten hotel? Imagine my surprise when we arrived to find this beautiful, elegant venue cleverly decorated in an Art Deco style. The domed ceilings were magnificient!

When we entered there was a lovely lounge area set up with comfy chairs and sofas to relax in. Not that many people were relaxing - everyone was checking out all the Canadiana items available for the raffle prizes and the silent auction.

We all stood together to start the evening off and sang our National Anthem. Can't believe how many years I've lived away from Canada (over 20 now) and it still brings a tear to my eye. Our Consul General was on hand to say a few words - its great to see an interest in our club again from his office.

The tables were all set with linen and it looked so elegant - I couldn't wait to see what was on the menu! When we sat down we were treated to yummy fresh bread and a menu that had our mouths watering. As I looked down the list of entrees and mains - I couldn't wait for them to bring out the first dish.

As is usual with an alternate drop - there was plenty of swapping and changing going on - so everyone was left with a smile on their face and their tastebuds singing! The food was presented beautifully and tasted amazing!

And lets not forget the drinks - I'm always thrilled when I can get my hands on a real Caesar! The wines were well chosen and the service was first rate.

All in all it was a lovely evening and a change from our more casual events. I really enjoyed being treated to such a special evening and I want to personally thank Catriona and Kathleen who worked so hard behind the scenes so people like myself could show up, relax and enjoy the company of my fellow Canadian Club members.

I can't wait to see what's planned for Thanksgiving!!
