CAC Sailing Day – Jan 2010

Summer Sailing Day - Saturday, January 30th

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL!

Ahoy there, me hearties! For the first time ever, we're organising a club sailing day. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or just want to set sail for your first time, here's your chance to join your fellow members and explore the waters surrounding sunny Sydney.

Your destination for the day is the Pittwater, Broken Bay and the mouth of the Hawkesbury - about 45 mins north of Sydney CBD by car.  Open to the ocean at its Northern heads, it is a gentler – though still salt-water – sail but with all of the captivating visuals of the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park on your left (West) and either the chi-chi reaches of Palm Beach and the far Northern Beaches on your right (East) or the mouth of the Hawkesbury River to the North.    On the way back to port it's all reversed, but you probably won't be worried by that point!

We'll cast off from Gibson Marina in Bayview at the Southern base of Pittwater at 0930 hours (that's Pirate/Maritime talk for 9:30am!) in a pair of skippered sailboats for a day's sailing adventure on the open water with the power of the winds at our command (we hope).

We'll cruise for a couple of hours, stop at a beach for lunch and a swim then it's more sailing until we pull back into port at approximately 1700 hrs (5pm!).  If any of you are sailors, you'll know that just the sight of another boat on the water going in roughly the same direction is sufficient justification to say you're "in a race" (even if the other boat is blissfully unaware), so we may have some social club racing on the way home.

The price is $75 person ($55 per child) and will include: experienced skippers, fully equipped and stocked sailboats, life jackets, and light refreshments ("light" in sailor lore includes wine, beer & special CAC Sailing Day cocktails!). We ask that everyone bring a food item that's enough to be shared with the group on their boat (approx. 10-15). We can accommodate 25 people in total, so sign up early.  Adults, teens and children are all welcome, but - for on-board sanity and safety - there must be at least one responsible adult per child under 12.

The day promises to be a wonderful way to take in the splendour of parts of Northern Sydney from a slightly different perspective - certainly taking you to some parts that other parties cannot reach!

No previous sailing experience is required, but if you have it, all the better (let us know).  If you're more a "Tanqueray-and-Tonic abaft the Topmast" kind of gal (or guy), then bring your sunnies and your shorts and settle back to be skippered swiftly to and fro, stopping only to sip and to swim.

You'll need to bring a bathing suit, sunscreen, towel, a food item (enough for a dozen), additional beverages (if you wish), camera, a windcheater/spray jacket (just in case) and any other items you think might add to the day.

Our event host for this event is Captain Chris Warrick (who in - one of - his day jobs is Club Treasurer).  This is a private, club-hosted event being organised by Chris for the benefit of the club and is not a corporate or commercial charter.

We are limited to 25 people and will need to confirm numbers reasonably early, so if you're interested in a day that promises fun from stem to stern, please sign up by Friday, January 22nd.
